Casino & Online Gaming Jobs Take a Significant Step Forward

Our friends at Wanted Analytics provide this insight: ” Online gaming has been a growing field over the past year. During October, hiring within this area increased 12% compared to October 2010. Not only has the number of job ads increased over the past year, but the number of companies hiring for these skills had grown. We found 78 companies that advertised online gaming or casino job openings during October 2011. In comparison, there were 58 companies that advertised job openings during October 2010.

Below are the 5 occupations with the most job ads during October. Not surprisingly, many were tech related with Software Engineers and Web Developers at the top of the list. Despite being the second most in-demand occupation by online gaming companies, Software Engineers saw a 9% decline in demand compared to 2010, while Web Developers grew 2%. Other positions that saw high demand, but didn’t make the top 5 list below were Advertising and Promotions Managers, Graphics Designers, and many office and administrative occupations.

Occupation Number of Job Ads in October 2011 % Change vs. October 2010
Web Developers 42 +2.4%
Computer Software Engineers, Applications 37 -9.8%
Marketing Managers 21 +61.5%
Market Research Analysts 13 +333.3%
Network and Computer Systems Administrators 12 0.0%

Also, we found that most of these jobs are located on the West Coast, with San Francisco, Seattle, San Jose, San Diego, and Los Angeles appearing as some of the top locations for these job openings. Despite being relatively easy-to-fill jobs, some locations will see more difficult recruiting conditions. Our Hiring Scale™ shows that Recruiters in San Francisco are likely to see the most difficult conditions of these locations with high demand. On the other hand, Seattle is likely to see the easiest recruiting conditions of these locations.
