Tech Hiring Enters the Holiday Slumber

According to Wanted Analytics: Tech talent is the most in-demand field currently in the US and more than 220,000 unique job listing were posted online during October. Despite seeing high demand, this field has begun to see slowing growth, which is mostly likely due to seasonal trends. The volume of job ads during October represents a 5.7% growth versus October 2010.

The graph below shows the interesting trend so familiar to HR and Recruiters:

The most in demand tech job titles include:

  1. Project Manager
  2. Software Engineers
  3. Java Developer
  4. Business Analyst
  5. Systems Engineer
  6. Network Engineer
  7. Web Developer
  8. .Net Developer
  9. Systems Administrator
  10. Programmer Analyst

On average, job ads for tech openings in the US are online for about 40 days. But, this varies by region. For example, job ads in New York and Dallas are online for 38 days, shorter than the national average. In comparison, ads in Washington, DC are open and listed online for 45 days. Recruiters in Washington are likely to spend longer periods of time sourcing to fill openings. In addition, our Hiring Scale™ shows that the talent pool in DC is small, with just 3 potential candidates per opening, and tech jobs will be significantly harder to fill than on average.
