Accounting: A Growth Field for 2012?

Wanted Analytics brings us the following: Accountants have been projected as one of the careers to see significant growth in 2012. We decided to take a look at recruiting conditions for these jobs to see what hiring demand looks like now and how hard-to-recruit these skills are likely to be.

In the last 90 days, there were more than 64,000 jobs advertised online for Accountants and Auditors across the United States. This represents a 25% increase compared to the same 90-day period in 2010. Approximately 35% of the job ads were placed by recruiting firms and staffing agencies, while 65% were advertised by employers. We found more than 6,700 employers currently advertising open Accounting jobs online – and many of them are currently advertising hundreds of unique job openings. It is likely that Recruiters will face fierce competition to fill all open positions.

5 Employers with the Highest Volume of Job Ads for Accountants

Company Number of Job Ads
Deloitte 687
Ernst & Young 649
Midas international – Franchise Systems 646
KPMG 573
Crowe Horwath LLP 226

Not surprisingly, Recruiters placed the most job ads for openings located in the New York metro area. With more than 7,800 ads currently being advertised in this area, hiring demand has increased 16% compared to 2010 and Recruiters may experience challenges with filling open jobs. With about 100,000 Accountants currently in the workforce in New York, there are about 12 potential candidates in the local NY workforce per advertised job. This represents about 1% of the entire talent pool in the New York metro area.
