Colleges & Universities: Hiring Up Significantly

Wanted Analytics brings us the following: With all of the talk about demand for skilled workers, we thought it would be useful to revisit the hiring at Universities, Colleges and Post-Secondary schools.  We assumed that the hiring would be mostly for teachers – likely focused on healthcare, technology, and engineering.  This isn’t exactly what we saw when we looked at the numbers. With over 45,000 new online job ads posted over the past 90 days, hiring appears to be up almost 14% when compared to the same time period last year.

DeVry University tops our list of employers with the largest number of new job ads.  Corinthian Colleges, The University of Michigan, Vanderbilt University, and the University of California – San Diego round out our top five colleges and universities by hiring demand.

The top occupations posted by Universities and Colleges over the past 90 days are Education Administrators and Executive Secretaries / Administrative Assistants.  This is followed by Health Specialties Teachers which makes sense given the growth we’ve seen in the Healthcare market.  We were somewhat surprised to see that Computer Science Teachers were all the way at the bottom of our list.  Does this mean that students aren’t taking these classes?  Given the current challenges employers seem to be having finding tech talent – this could pose a larger problem in the future.
