January Report: Where the Jobs Are?

Wanted Analytics brings us the January data: Employers posted just over 1.6 million new job ads, in January 2012.  This represents an 18% increase in hiring demand versus the same time period last year.

With almost 84,000 new job ads placed for Registered Nurses, they again top our list of positions that employers are trying to fill.  Computer Systems Analysts are a distant second with 50,000 new job ads during the month of January.  Only three of the positions in the top twenty list saw a decrease in hiring versus the prior year.  Demand for Physical Therapists was down 37.1%, Occupational Therapists – down 30.8%, and Medical/Health Services Managers was down 3.7%.

There were four cities, in January, that had more than 50,000 new job ads posted: New York (96,277), Washington, D.C. (58,723), Los Angeles (53,544), and Chicago (52,849).  Combined, these four cities were up approximately 19% versus January 2011.

Three out of the top ten industries looking for talent had over 20,000 new job ads posted in January: General Medical and Surgical Hospitals, Administrative Management and General Management Consulting Services, and Offices of Physicians.  These three industries are up 46% versus January 2011.
