April Jobs Report: Where Are The Jobs?

Here’s what and where employers are hiring.

Wanted Analytics brings us the data:

During the month of April, there were 4.9 million job ads posted online in the United States and we thought it would be interesting to look at the industries, occupations, and locations that saw the most hiring demand last month.

The industry that placed the most online job ads during April were General Medical and Surgical Hospitals. Although there were more than 83,000 positions advertised by them, they experienced a 9% decline in hiring demand. Limited Service Restaurants and Commercial Banking industries followed. Of the 10 industries below with the most ads, Limited Service Restaurants saw the highest year-over-year growth, with 350% more ads in April 2012 than in April 2011.

The 10 occupations with the most job ads are below, all of which saw year-over-year growth in April. Since Hospitals were the industry with the most ads, it’s not too surprising that Registered Nurses are the most demanded job in the US. Other high-demand occupations were Retail Salespersons, Truck Drivers, Retail Sales Managers, and Computer Systems Analysts.

Historically, the metro area with the most online job ads is New York, and this was true again in April, growing 3% compared to the same month last year. However, of the 10 metro areas below with the most ads, Houston saw the greatest increase, up 25%. All 10 of the below locations experienced a year-over-year increase in hiring demand.
