May Jobs Report: So Where Were The Jobs?

Separating fact from fiction in an election year on the topic of jobs can be a tricky equation. But let’s see what the numbers provide us in terms of analysis for May.

Wanted Analytics share the figures:

During the month of May, there were more than 5 million job ads posted online in the United States and we wanted to provide a short review of the industries, occupations, and locations that saw the most hiring demand last month.

The industry that placed the most online job ads during May, once again, was General Medical and Surgical Hospitals. Although there were more than 85,000 positions advertised by them, they once again saw a year-over-year decline in the number of ads. Limited Service Restaurants and Commercial Banking industries followed. Of the 10 industries below with the most ads, Limited Service Restaurants saw the highest year-over-year growth, with 400% more ads in May 2012 than in May 2011. Two industries saw declines: General Medical and Surgical Hospitals and Computer Systems Design Services.

The 10 occupations with the most job ads are below, all of which saw year-over-year growth in April. Since Hospitals were the industry with the most ads, it’s not too surprising that Registered Nurses are the most demanded job in the US. Other high-demand occupations were Retail Salespersons, Truck Drivers, Retail Sales Managers, and Managers of Food Preparation Workers. Managers of Food Preparation Workers has been steadily increasing since the beginning of the year, and actually saw the greatest year-over-year increase, up 90% (almost double from last year.)
