The Top 10 Cities For Jobseekers

It is no secret that there are some cities that are better places for candidates that are searching for jobs. For example, New York City will hopefully be a much better place to look for an information technology or systems analyst job than Nome, Alaska. WANTED Analytics brings us the following article about the Top Ten cities with highest job demand and the Top Ten professions in demand in those cities.



Below are the 10 cities with the highest number of job ads posted online during the past 30 days.



Cities with the Most Demand
  1. New York, NY
  2. Houston, TX
  3. Chicago, IL
  4. Los Angeles, CA
  5. San Francisco, CA
  6. Atlanta, GA
  7. Washington, DC
  8. Dallas, TX
  9. Seattle, WA
  10. Boston, MA



Combined, there were more than 928,000 job ads posted online in these cities, a 16% increase when comparing the past 30 days to the same 30-day period in 2012. Seattle experienced the most growth, increasing 22%. San Francisco was close behind with 22% year-over-year growth. Only 2 cities had decreases in demand compared to last May, New York and Washington, DC. Which jobs were most in-demand in these cities?



Most Commonly Advertised Occupations in the Cities with the Most Demand
  1. Software Developers, Applications
  2. Marketing Managers
  3. Registered Nurses
  4. Web Developers
  5. Computer Systems Analysts
  6. Accountants
  7. Executive Secretaries and Executive Administrative Assistants
  8. Management Analysts
  9. Network and Computer Systems Administrators
  10. Financial Managers, Branch or Department



Three positions listed above saw declines in job ad volume when compared to last year including Web Developers, Computer Systems Analysts, and Network and Computer Systems Administrators. Despite these declines, computer and mathematical occupations were most in-demand. Registered Nurses are still experiencing healthy hiring demand, rising the most in the past year, 25%. Financial Managers had the second most growth, rising 19% since May 2012.



General medical and surgical hospitals posted the highest number of job ads. Commercial banking and other business support services were also among the industries with the most demand. Mail-Order Houses had the largest increase in demand compared to the same 30-day period last year.
