Service Lines Hiring:
  • Oncology Service Line encompasses five units focused on the care of oncology patients. We specialize in blood disorders, lymphoma patients receiving chemotherapy, stem cell transplants, and hematology/oncology treatment of leukemia on units 2 Pavilion and 2 South, 5 Main, 6 Main, 6 West, and 7 Main. There are opportunities for growth and development through continued education opportunities and certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
  • Medicine Service Line at UPMC Shadyside is a significant service supporting our academic teaching program mission. Units 3 East, 3 Pavilion, 4 East, 4 Pavilion/South, and 5 Pavilion with over 120 beds. These units care for patients of all ages who are being treated for a wide array of conditions that allow for nurses to be telemetry-trained, NIH stroke certified, and med/surg RNs.
  • Surgical Service Line consists of several departments all with a unique surgically based focus. Each unit is staffed by nurses who are specialists in their respective fields and provide compassionate care and clinical excellence: 3 West Surgical Orthopedic, 3 Main Surgical Cardiovascular, 4 Main Surgical Oncology, 6/7 Pavilion Med/Surg Urology, and 7 West Neuro Surgical/Oncology Stepdown.

The Professional Staff Nurse provides highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. A role that requires independent judgment, fluent communication, and candid partnership, the Professional Staff Nurse establishes relationships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and patients' families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role OR ability to start with TPP and must obtain a license within 4 months of beginning the position. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.
  • Graduate Nurses who are eligible for the State Board Licensure and Staff Nurses with nursing experience will be considered for this position. Please note that the below salary may vary pending years of experience and education of the selected candidate.
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing, BSN, or MSN is required.
  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Critical thinking skills are necessary to exercise and to lead others in the application of the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
  • UPMC-approved national certification is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
